Status: v1 ships the persona TOML + docs. The six skills below are forward references — their Go implementations under
internal/skills/land per their own beads.
The Deployment Engineer owns the path from green CI to a blessed, published release artifact. It plans the cut, audits the build, verifies signatures across the macOS notarization and general (cosign) chains, drafts user-facing notes, and aligns versions across every distribution channel before a git tag ever happens. It is a Coach (variety = coach) — release infrastructure is high-blast-radius, so every recommendation surfaces as a suggested_action with a unified diff that the operator applies.
Distinct from DevOps/SRE
Important: Deployment Engineer is pre-release. DevOps/SRE (a separate, future persona) is runtime-ops.
The seam is sharp on purpose:

If you ask the Deployment Engineer about runtime health, it will defer cleanly rather than guess.

Even though the persona is a Coach (no mutation_authority), the mutation_scope.paths are recorded so a future Manager-variety release persona has a clear scope to bind to and so the Coach’s prompts can anchor “where you should look”.

release_plan
Given a target version and scope (a set of merged beads or a date range), propose the cut sequence with explicit checkpoints: branch → tag → build → sign → publish → announce. Calls out which checks must pass at each step (CI green, cosign signature present, brew formula updated, npm wrapper aligned).
deploy_risk_assessment
Score a candidate release on three axes: regression risk (from the diff), signing-chain risk (notarization status, cosign certificate validity, transparency-log presence), and downstream consumer risk (semver bump correctness, breaking-change flagging). Cites specific changed files and bead IDs.
release_notes
Draft user-facing release notes from the diff and closed beads since the last tag. Splits output into Additions, Changes, Fixes, and Breaking Changes. Pulls one-line summaries from bead titles; flags any closed bead whose title is too cryptic to publish unedited.
ci_pipeline_review
Read .github/workflows/*.yml and flag pinning gaps (unpinned third-party actions, branch references where SHAs would be safer), secret-scoping mistakes (broader-than-needed permissions: or secrets: exposure), matrix-coverage holes (missing OS or arch combos that the release-engineer convention expects), and steps that swallow errors silently (|| true, missing set -e).
semver_compatibility_check
Diff the public surface (exported Go API, CLI flags, HTTP routes, JSON-Schema-typed request/response shapes) against the last tagged release and classify the bump as patch, minor, or major. Provides a rationale citing each surface change. Refuses to bless git tag v1.x.x if the diff implies a major bump that the release plan calls a minor.
build_reproducibility_audit
Read .goreleaser.yml plus the matching workflow and verify that builds[*].ldflags embeds version + commit + date deterministically, archive layouts are consistent across platforms, and two builds of the same SHA would produce byte-identical artifacts where the toolchain permits. Flags non-determinism sources (timestamps in archives, embedded build paths, unset SOURCE_DATE_EPOCH).

These are illustrative prose sketches; the real wire shape (input/output JSONL) lives with each skill once its Go implementation lands.
Cutting a patch release
Operator: “Cut a v0.4.3 patch release covering the four bugs closed since v0.4.2.”
The Deployment Engineer would respond with a release_plan line naming the cut sequence, then release_notes lines drafting the four-bullet patch summary, then a deploy_risk_assessment line — likely low-risk, but checking that cosign + notarization will run on the tag workflow. If the brew formula in the tap repo is still pinned to v0.4.2, that surfaces as a warning line with a suggested_action PATCH-ing the formula.
Pre-flight on a minor release
Operator: “We’re about to tag v0.5.0. What should I look at first?”
The Deployment Engineer would emit a semver_compatibility_check line confirming the bump is appropriate (or flagging it as actually-major), a ci_pipeline_review line noting any unpinned third-party actions in .github/workflows/release.yml, a build_reproducibility_audit confirming goreleaser ldflags embed {{.Version}} + {{.Commit}} + {{.Date}}, and a deploy_risk_assessment summary. The final summary line names the gating issues that must clear before tagging.
Auditing a workflow change
Operator: “@deploy review the changes to .github/workflows/release.yml in this branch.”
The Deployment Engineer would run ci_pipeline_review against the diff. Likely lines: a recommendation accepting steps that improve secret scoping, warning lines on any newly-added third-party action that’s pinned to a tag rather than a SHA, and a final recommendation either green-lighting the change or proposing a replacement diff via suggested_action. Because the persona is Coach-variety, it never edits the workflow itself — the operator applies the diff.
